Staff Professional Learning Day

At the start of Term 2, St Michael’s Collegiate staff enjoyed a Professional Learning Day focused on wellbeing in the workplace—an important foundation for effective teaching and learning.

Our guest speaker was Justin Robinson from The Wellbeing Distillery, who led an engaging session exploring what wellbeing means in practice for both individuals and organisations. Justin guided staff through the idea that wellbeing is not only a personal matter, but also shaped by the systems, structures, and expectations around us—reinforcing that wellbeing is everyone’s work.

A key highlight of the day was Justin’s discussion of The Wellbeing Quadrant, a planning and insight tool that helps teams clarify who is responsible for what when supporting colleagues. By using a simple four-quadrant approach, staff reflected on how wellbeing is influenced by both:

  • Individual factors (what each person can do and control), and
  • Organisational factors (what leaders, teams, and systems design and maintain)

The session encouraged staff to consider responsibilities across the quadrants and to think practically about how to move from “doing wellbeing” to embedding wellbeing as part of the culture and daily operating approach of the school.

St Michael’s Collegiate values professional learning each term, and this session supported staff to strengthen their understanding of workplace wellbeing, with clear and constructive ideas to take back into school life.

We thank Justin Robinson for his time and expertise, and we look forward to continuing our wellbeing journey together throughout Term 2 and beyond.
