Student Safety and Care

Our commitment

At St Michael’s Collegiate, the safety and well-being of every child is our highest priority.

We are committed to providing a learning environment where girls feel:

  • Safe
  • Supported
  • Respected
  • Protected

We understand that learning can only flourish when children feel secure in their surroundings, their relationships and their sense of belonging.

At Collegiate, safety is not assumed — it is actively built, monitored and protected every day.

Highly trained, trusted staff

The care of your daughter is entrusted to professionals who are carefully selected, trained and supported.

All Collegiate staff are:

  • Thoroughly vetted in line with Tasmanian and Australian Government regulations
  • Required to hold valid Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registrations
  • Cleared through mandatory background and suitability checks before employment

Our responsibility does not end at recruitment.

Staff undertake regular professional learning and mandatory training in:

  • Child protection
  • Mandatory reporting obligations
  • Safeguarding practices
  • Student well-being and Mental Health
  • Creating safe and respectful learning environments

This training is updated regularly to align with national standards and evolving best practices.

A culture of safeguarding

safety

A culture of safeguarding

Student safety at Collegiate is not just policy — it is culture.

We actively build a community where:

• Students feel safe to speak up
• Adults listen and act
• Boundaries are taught and respected
• Concerns are addressed early
• Respect is modelled consistently

Our staff are trained to recognise early signs of concern and to respond with care, professionalism and urgency where required.
Crest

Clear systems of care

We maintain structured systems to protect and support students, including:

  • Clear supervision expectations
  • Structured pastoral care
  • Visible staff presence during breaks and transitions
  • Well-defined reporting and response procedures

Students are taught protective behaviours and safe relationship skills so they feel confident advocating for themselves and others.

Partnerships with families

We believe child safety is strongest when school and home work together.

We encourage strong, open communication with families and take all concerns seriously. Family partnerships are respected as an essential part of a student’s safety and well-being.
