From Collegiate Student to Inspiring Performing Arts Educator.
Emily is no stranger to the halls of St Michael’s Collegiate—she walked them as a student from 1998 to 2012, immersing herself in the school’s vibrant arts culture. Those formative years left a lasting impression.
“I felt inspired by my teachers and grateful for the opportunities presented to us. It was only after leaving school that I truly realised how monumental some of those experiences were.”
That deep appreciation drew her back to Collegiate this year, where she now teaches Year 5 Music, Year 8 Dance, Vocal and Dance in the School of Performing Arts, Founder’s Choir, Collegiate Singers, and Dance Club (Years 3–6). Her goal is clear: to inspire the current generation of students and help them discover the transformative power of the arts.
Emily brings a wealth of professional experience into the classroom. Beyond Collegiate, she is deeply involved in Hobart’s performing arts scene—teaching singing and musical theatre at House of Dance, running her own theatre company Venus Creative (focused on musical theatre for children and young adults), and freelancing as a vocal director and choreographer for companies including John X Presents. This March, she will perform in the Tasmanian premiere of &Juliet at the Theatre Royal. These real-world roles allow her to share current industry knowledge, practices, and passion with her students.
Since joining, Emily has felt warmly welcomed by the Performing Arts team:
“They’ve been so supportive and made me feel a strong sense of belonging. It’s refreshing to work in a larger team of passionate, knowledgeable colleagues.”
Through her teaching and mentoring, Emily encourages girls to embrace the fullness of life via the arts. “The skills we build—confidence, teamwork, public speaking, and creativity—are vital in almost every career path,” she says. “I urge students to jump in and experience as much as they can, even if the arts aren’t their long-term future. These skills will serve them well in any challenging environment.”
Looking ahead, Emily is most excited about the upcoming productions and performance opportunities: “I’m looking forward to seeing our girls shine both onstage and off, and contributing to the incredible array of experiences Collegiate offers.”
We are delighted to have Emily back in our community as a dedicated educator lighting the way for the next generation of performers and confident young women.
