Supporting Student Wellbeing: Pelvic Pain Education Sessions.

At St Michael’s Collegiate, student wellbeing is a priority. We provide practical, evidence-based education to help girls understand and manage their health, particularly menstrual and pelvic pain. This equips them with accurate information and tools to make informed decisions about their bodies.

We have teamed up with the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia to deliver the Pelvic Pain Education Program (PPEP Talk®) across relevant year groups in smaller, age-appropriate sessions.

These one-hour presentations, led by fully trained Clinical Educators, use animation, video, and interactive components to deliver medically accurate information on period pain and endometriosis. Students learn to recognise normal vs. concerning pain, understand how symptoms connect, apply simple strategies to reduce pain, and know when to seek further help.

1 in 4 students experience severe period pain.

The program is especially valuable for the approximately 1 in 4 students who experience severe period pain, as around half of those cases may develop into endometriosis in the teens or twenties. Early education supports timely management and reduces impacts on school attendance and daily life.

After the group session, students can speak privately with the educator about personal concerns, enabling early support when pain is more manageable.

For students with more complex issues, a follow-up online option is available: PPEP Talk® Next Steps. This session allows students (with a parent/guardian) to ask questions directly to Gynaecologist and Pain Specialist Associate Professor Susan Evans.

By offering this program, we give our girls the knowledge and resources to care for their health confidently and proactively.
