Building Confidence, Community and Connection Through Real-World Experiences

The 10 Connect program is designed to give students the time and space to:

  • Better understand themselves through adventure and challenge in a supportive environment
  • Build stronger relationships with the people around them, leading to positive community development
  • Develop a greater connection to the world around them through hands-on, place-based experiences

At Collegiate we believe in creating opportunities for genuine personal growth by challenging students’ comfort zones – always within a safe and supportive framework tailored to each individual.

Program Options – Three Pathways, One Shared Purpose

Last week, Year 10 students across Collegiate took part in the 10 Connect Week, trading classrooms for cliffs, trails and garden beds. The program offered three distinct pathways, allowing every student to choose the experience that best suited their interests while achieving the same powerful outcomes.

1. Explore: Derby Mountain Bike Trip (4 days) Students headed to the world-class Blue Derby Mountain Bike Trail Network in Tasmania’s North-East. This immersive explore-focused journey combined physical challenge, stunning landscapes and group riding to foster self-discovery and connection to place.

2. Adventure: Day Adventures Program A variety of full-day experiences kept students active and engaged close to home:

  • Coasteering at Blackman’s Bay
  • Surfing and swimming at Clifton Beach
  • Bushwalking in Wellington Park

These adventures delivered the perfect mix of thrill, teamwork and reflection.

3. Service Learning This term’s service group stayed on campus to complete a meaningful project for the Junior School community. Building on last year’s work, students “blitzed” the Anglesea Campus community garden – digging, trimming, lifting and preparing the space for the junior environmental teaching and learning program. Through identifying real needs and taking direct action, students developed empathy, responsibility and a lasting sense of contribution.

10 Connect Week has already delivered unforgettable memories and visible growth. Every participant returned with stronger self-awareness, tighter friendships and a deeper appreciation for the world around them.
