A World of Opportunities

Frances Walsh, a Year 12 school-based trainee completed her TCE studies as well as her traineeship due to the flexible pathways offered by Collegiate.

Frances completed a Certificate I in Hospitality at the RACV Hotel in Collins Street and learned about clearing tables, cleaning, re-stocking the breakfast things and saying good morning to the customers. She finished her traineeship at the end of 2019, is now a staff member and enjoyed a birthday cake for her 18th birthday!

Frances continues to study at TasTAFE in a Work Pathways course. She explained that she is learning skills like hygiene and cleaning, helping customers, listening to helpers, setting up special events, working with the other breakfast staff and being friendly.

She said about her VET training “I can be proud of doing a good job and getting my certificate.”

Kiirra of Year 12 has received two School Based Traineeships (SBT) for 2021. She will complete a Certificate III in Hospitality while working at the Great Lakes Hotel, and a Certificate III in Fitness while working at Optimal Health.

This supported school-based pathway means she’ll be a Collegiate student AND be working in the industry. She is completing her TCE as well as gaining a qualification, and preparing for employment! Kiirra is very excited about her future. Congratulations!
