Staff Spotlight – Mary-Jane Watkins

Mary-Jane Watkins is a Teacher Assistant

What do you love about your job?
I love the opportunity to take time to build meaningful relationships with students from Kinder through to Year 12.
I love that I get to attend camps and to challenge myself in front of the students at camp…my motto is “if you have a go, then I will too.”

What made you want to be a Teacher Assistant?
Twenty years ago I attended “Mothers Help” in Kindergarten.  I went home to my husband and said that I loved working with the students and I think I’d like to become a Teacher Assistant.
I am now in my twentieth year of TA work and still loving it.

What is one thing you would go back and tell your 14-year-old self?
Become who you are, and never worry about other people’s opinions of you.

What is one thing you would love to do if you could do anything?
Live in a village in Northern Italy near the mountains for 12 months.

If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would be seated at your table?
Jessie Luckman, wilderness pioneer, and my four grandparents.
