It has been exciting to create an EAL Mandarin speaking group at the Junior School.
During these group sessions with Miss Yina Peng and Ms Sandy Rogers, the Year 4 leaders are buddied up with younger students in the School. They work together to develop their vocabulary and confidence when speaking English at school.
The Year 4 leaders are in the process of creating an interactive digital book that will help to consolidate the vocabulary that they have been teaching the younger students during these sessions. They are taking images of each item and recording themselves identifying the commonly used school items and concepts in both Mandarin and English. The group will continue to develop these resources and work together throughout the year. In addition to working during regular group sessions, the Year 4 leaders are also helping the younger students in the playground as they develop friendships and navigate social dynamics. This is a huge success and all students are keen to participate as often as possible.
