Winter Solstice Lantern Walk and Open Classrooms 2022

Last night as the snow settled on kunanyi, and the full moon lit the sky, Kindergarten students and families warmed themselves around the firepit as they prepared to walk to the South Hobart Rivulet on our annual Winter Solstice Lantern Walk. All the Kindergarten children held their hand dyed lanterns and illuminated the way as we all processed down Anglesea Street and assembled at the base of our regular learning space – the ‘muddy slide’ area of the Rivulet.

Together we recited our respects to country, reflected on our space and sang a repertoire of familiar nursery rhymes. Upon our return, both Kindergartens hosted Open Classrooms where family and friends had the opportunity to explore their child’s learning environment and classwork.

All families enjoyed sitting together and making connections while they were treated to hot home made soup and bread rolls fresh from the Kindergarten kitchen. It was a magical night full of light, excitement and community.

The students did an amazing job preparing and hosting such a wonderful event.
