Staff Spotlight – Gen Walsh

Gen Walsh is our Kindergarten Teacher.

What do you love about your job?

I’m so very lucky to be able to come to work each morning to a job I absolutely love.  Working together with young students in a collaborative, inquiry based classroom allows me to create innovative and stimulating teaching and learning environments. Teaching Kindergarten children is a gift that I cherish and I am incredibly lucky to be able to spend the day with curious, energetic, creative and delightful citizens of the world.

What made you want to study teaching?

Inspired by the positive impact both my teaching parents had on their former students, and motivated to make similar influences, challenge myself and work with children, I chose to study teaching.  Underpinning my decision to teach, was the opportunity to embed some of my knowledge and model my values of inclusion, humility, kindness, equity and acceptance to my students.

What is the one thing you would go back and tell your 14-year-old self?

Cherish the people you love, hug them daily and appreciate every moment you have with them.  Challenge yourself daily, persevere with tasks, live life and enjoy it!

What is the one thing you would love to do if you could do anything?

As a younger girl, I absolutely would have loved to have joined and travelled the world with a circus. Ridiculous yes, but an impossible dream I hung on to for a while. Now I think I’ll settle to do some travel.

If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would be seated at your table?

I would love to have at my table:

Michelle and Barrack Obama – both amazingly educated astute human beings

Sir Paul McCartney – music influence and banter

Kath Day-Knight – fashion and cultural advice

My dearest friend who fought with grace, dignity and courage in the face of MND and taught me so much about life, love and happiness.
