Staff Spotlight – Carolyn Gordon

Carolyn Gordon is a Year 5/6 Coordinator, and Teacher of English, Humanities and Design Technology.

What do you love about your job?

Seeing a student who has, perhaps, felt a little underwhelmed by my subject become enthusiastic and interested in a topic.

What made you want to study teaching?

I wasn’t sure that I did want to be a teacher, but I had a few inspiring teachers and I really wanted to go to university and at that time the Education Department gave out loans to encourage people to study teaching. The loan was paid back by teaching, which I thought was quite a good deal!

What is one thing you would go back and tell your 14-year-old self?

Try not to worry about what others think of you, because the chances are, they weren’t even thinking of you in the first place!

What is one thing you would love to do, if you could you do anything?

I’d like to visit and spend as much time as I liked in all the Art Galleries and Museums of the world.

If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would be seated at your table?

I would invite Nelson Mandela because he led an amazing life and modelled forgiveness, love and understanding when he could have been bitter and vengeful.

I’d invite Miriam Margolyes because she seems very funny and has led an interesting life and doesn’t take herself too seriously.

I’d invite my husband, children, sisters and oldest school friend because they are amazing and would help me to prepare the dinner!
