Collegiate has a long history of providing a home away from home for its students. Young women from Years 5 to 12 and from all parts of Tasmania, interstate and overseas live in the warm and caring environment of the Boarding House located on the Senior School campus in Macquarie Street.

We understand the importance of knowing each student as an individual and we offer a nurturing environment with a happy community atmosphere, where each person is treated with respect.

The staff apply a sensible and monitored approach to the care of students under the care of the Director of Boarding, who is supported by six staff members and the Principal.

The Boarding House sits among green lawns and established gardens and there’s always somewhere to play or relax. Our students also enjoy our indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, performing arts centre, music and dance studios, student centre, and a library.

Boarders engage in craft projects, dining out, cooking, excursions, movies and many other social activities that support strong and balanced lifestyles. The Boarding House has a selection of games and puzzles, a piano, Lego, sewing machine, WiiU, sporting equipment and bikes to keep students busy after school and on weekends. Conveniently, we are only a short stroll from Hobart’s renowned art galleries, the Salamanca precinct, shops, theatres and restaurants.

A popular figure in and around the Boarding House is Phyllis, our resident four-legged cavoodle. Named after one of Collegiate's early principals, Phyllis contributes to our homely atmosphere and is a source of laughter and comfort for all our girls.

The Boarding House Handbook below will help you to understand our routines and how we live together. This unique experience enables girls to form many lasting and valuable friendships with other Collegiate students.

Casual and day boarding

Casual boarding and day boarding is available for day / local students. Day boarding services are provided from the end of the school day to the end of Boarders prep time at 8.30pm. Over the years that I’ve been here the sense of belonging and family has been a constant. Your sense of place is always strong, it’s just a great place to be."
Ali Fisher
Old Girl

I like being a boarder because everybody really looks after me.

Alice Parsons
Year 6

One of my favourite times of the day is the evening meal. All boarders and staff meet to share a delicious meal – technology is put away and everybody sits at the table to talk about their day.

Miss Mika Browning
Director of Boarding

What I love about the Boarding House is the care the girls show to each other every day. When a boarder is struggling with a task, idea or issue there is such diversity that somebody will always have the strength, talent or experience to help.
