SPA Auditions

Auditions in Term 2

St Michael’s Collegiate is renowned for its commitment to the performing arts.

The School of Performing Arts – SPA – our innovative ‘school within a school’ is our specialist offering to talented students in Years 8 to 10.

This program provides a high calibre performing arts experience, so students can develop as communicative artists, instilled with the dedication and understanding to reach within themselves to affect and move audiences.

Across the key disciplines of Acting, Dance and Singing, each of these specialised streams build on the core skills students already have in their chosen area, and provides further opportunities through technical training, master classes, specialised tutoring and workshops, performance evenings and eisteddfods.

The SPA Program aims to extend students in many ways, and for a variety of purposes, including creating performances both for the School community and wider public audiences. When possible, the students participate in a range of local and interstate concerts and performances.

We have designed SPA to prepare students to audition for a range of Performing Arts Schools and can act as a pathway to both non and pre tertiary level courses such as Dance, Drama / Theatre Performance and Music. It is led by an experienced SPA teaching team, committed to passing on their extensive industry knowledge about life in the performing arts. All have a vast range of repertoire and connections to both local and interstate professionals and artists.

The team consists of:

Liz Harper – a specialist Drama educator, Alumni, NIDA and Theatre Nepean graduate.

Grace Ovens – a Hobart based soprano who graduated from the Conservatorium (BMus Hons).

Ali Richardson-Hickey – a Dance educator with specialisation in ballet, lyrical and contemporary.

Students from Years 8 to 10 are accepted into the SPA Program through an audition process in their stream of Acting, Singing and Dance. Auditions will be held in the week beginning Monday 13 June 2022 for current and new students entering Years 8, 9 and 10 in 2023.
